Overview

Pao Rosa is a tropical species of the forests of Central and West Africa. It is 25 m high and 80 cm in diameter. The bole is tortuous, covered with a yellowish scaly bark, and gives off a smell of plantain when it is cut.

The tropical tree Pao Rosa can be confused in the forest with another tropical tree, Ozigo, because their trunks look alike. However, the edge of Ozigo gives off a resinous smell.

Pao Rosa wood, also known as African rosewood, is a dense, durable hardwood with a distinctive appearance and pleasant scent. It is characterized by colors ranging from pink and yellow to reddish-brown, sometimes with darker streaks or a greenish hue. The wood is known for its good workability, attractive grain patterns, and natural luster. It is often used in furniture making, specialty woodworking, and as a veneer.
