Doussie (Afzelia bipindensis)

Overview
Doussié, also known by its scientific name Afzelia bipindensis, is a hardwood prized for its durability and resistance to decay and insects. It's a tropical tree found in West and Central Africa, known for its reddish-brown heartwood and pale yellow sapwood. Doussié is often used in outdoor applications like decking, shipbuilding, and heavy construction due to its strength and stability.
It typically grows to a height of 25 to 40 meters, with a straight, cylindrical trunk that can reach diameters of up to 100 centimeters. The tree has a broad, spreading crown with compound leaves composed of multiple leaflets. Its wood is characterized by a fine, even texture and a rich, reddish-brown color that darkens with age. Native to Central Africa, Afzelia bipindensis is primarily found in countries such as Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It thrives in lowland tropical rainforests and mixed forests, often growing on well-drained, fertile soils. Due to its excellent mechanical properties and resistance to pests, Doussie is highly sought after for furniture, flooring, and veneer production.
