BAS (Dicorynia guianensis‌)

Dicorynia guianensis, commonly known as Angelique, is a large, durable hardwood tree native to French Guiana and Suriname. It is characterized by its reddish-brown to purplish-brown heartwood, often with a golden or greenish hue, and a lighter, well-defined sapwood. The wood is known for its stability, moderate workability, and resistance to decay, marine borers, and termites.

BAS (Dicorynia guianensis), also known as Angelique, is a durable, reddish-brown hardwood native to South America, particularly French Guiana, Suriname, and Brazil. It's known for its strength, dimensional stability, and resistance to decay and marine borers, making it suitable for various construction and marine applications. Angelique is a tree growing up to 45 metres tall. The straight, cylindrical bole can be up to 150cm in diameter and unbranched for 15 - 18 metres. It is heavily buttressed. It is widely used in construction, particularly for marine and structural applications, as well as for flooring, furniture, and other woodworking projects.

Description & Distribution

Dicorynia is a genus of flowering plants in the legume family, Fabaceae. It belongs to the subfamily Dialioideae. It includes two species of trees native to northern South America, ranging through Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, the Guianas, and northern Brazil.
