Cameroon plans to further expand its ban on log exports
Cameroon intends to broaden the scope of its log export restrictions by adding more timber species to the current list of 91 restricted varieties, aiming to further boost the development of domestic wood processing industries.

In a notice issued on October 12, 2026, regarding the preparation of the 2027 national budget, President Paul Biya instructed the government to continue restricting the export of unprocessed timber, specifically directing that the "list of timber species prohibited from being exported in log form be expanded."
The notice did not specify which additional species would be included, how many new species would be added, or when the new restrictions would take effect. As such, the directive establishes only the government's policy direction without clarifying the exact scope or timeline for the next round of export bans.
On April 28, 2026, Cameroon’s Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Jules Doret Ndongo, signed an ordinance adding 15 new timber species to the previous list of 76 banned log-export species, bringing the total number of restricted species to 91.

Additionally, 23 other species classified as “promoted species” remain permitted for export in unprocessed form, although they are subject to additional export duties.
