Moisture content is also one of the most common reasons for cracking in rosewood furniture. The moisture content of wood in the south is relatively higher than that in the north. To balance this, dry air will constantly absorb moisture from the furniture, while humid air will constantly supply moisture to it. Even if the furniture is produced in the same region, this problem cannot be avoided. In winter, collective heating in the north makes the air dry, and the moisture content can only be maintained at 8%. In summer, the air is humid, and the moisture content rapidly rises to 20%. The strong fluctuations make the furniture unable to adapt, causing internal dry-wet imbalance. Temperature differences cause cracking in rosewood furniture. Since rosewood furniture is natural and has active properties, it will expand and contract due to changes in the surrounding environment. When the temperature rises, the kinetic energy of wood molecules increases, and the average free path of molecules increases, resulting in thermal expansion. The same applies to cold contraction. Therefore, when rosewood furniture is in an environment with large temperature fluctuations, the panels will expand and contract with the environment, resulting in inconsistent expansion and contraction on both sides. This is why during spring and winter, when artificially drying wood, expansion joints need to be left. Otherwise, when summer comes, the edges will be damaged. Conversely, if the wood is dried in winter and installed after the New Year, when summer comes, it will still crack.

Cracking caused by inadequate processing. If the drying process is not properly handled before processing the boards, it can also cause cracking in the furniture. For example, if the equipment is not advanced, the process is rough, or the wood has not been left to rest for a long time after being made. In addition, if there is glue residue at the corners during assembly, it will also affect the natural contraction of the wood. Different parts of rosewood furniture have different moisture contents. When the environment changes, the furniture will naturally crack due to the residual stress within the wood. If the air is very dry, the furniture will lose a lot of moisture and shrink, causing cracks on the surface. Conversely, if the air humidity increases, the furniture will absorb moisture and expand. In severe cases, it can even damage the wood structure! The surface of the furniture is like human skin and hair; it will crack if it lacks water. Even if you spend 60,000 yuan on furniture and someone else spends 6,000 yuan, if it is not properly maintained, it will crack. And once it cracks, it is very difficult to restore.
